  • Noon – Meeting the Moment and Finding Joy: Melanie Bullock Harris
    • Find light and embrace joy in every moment.  Remember why we do what we do and what we love about the work we do.
  • 1 p.m. – Care Z College: (Re)Designing Care in the Community with a Common Agenda: Jillian Sturdivant
    • As the landscape of higher education continues to evolve, so do the mental health challenges face by college students. Increasing rates of anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues are emerging alongside the pressures of academic success, the influence of social media, and societal expectations. In light of these challenges, it is essential to assess the resources available at small colleges and universities and how we can develop intentional support for both students and staff. This session will explore the latest trends and opportunities for addressing these issues by fostering a common agenda.
  • 2 p.m. – The Small College/University Resident Director – Challenges and Opportunities: April Chagoya, Ethan Scheck and Miguel Sosa
    • The Resident Director position at a small college and university is truly unique; while the role provides the ability to wear multiple hats and develop strong relationships with students, the lack of resources and a smaller staff size can also pose challenges. In this panel discussion, we will learn from today’s generation of Resident Directors how they find joy within their work, and how their experiences can help us think of how to sustain these professionals for years to come.
  • 3 p.m. – Building Trust with Gen Z Students: Isis Artze Vega
    • As Gen Z enters higher education, understanding their unique needs and communication styles is essential for fostering trust, engagement, and academic success. This session will explore strategies for building genuine, lasting relationships with Gen Z students by recognizing the ways in which their values, expectations, and experiences shape their approach to learning and campus life. Gen Z students value authenticity, transparency, and inclusivity, and they expect institutions to not only offer academic rigor but also to be responsive to their emotional and social needs. We will examine the importance of digital communication, mental health awareness, and ensuring that campus resources are accessible and relevant to this generation’s concerns. By the end of the session, participants will leave with practical tools and insights to better connect with Gen Z students, build stronger relationships, and support their holistic development during their college journey.
  • 4 p.m. – Navigating Workload and Finding Joy: Small Group Dialogue (Entry Level: Airikah Cotton; Mid-Level:Amy Pounders; and Senior Level: Bob Beyer)
    • Our final session for the symposium will provide an opportunity for participants to break into small groups by professional level (entry-level, mid-level, and senior-level) to connect within their perspective group and engage in dialogue about how to find joy within your particular role and function. Whether you’re just starting your career, managing teams, or leading an organization, it’s essential to reflect on how we can create meaning and satisfaction in our daily tasks.  This session offers a space for honest reflection and sharing among peers, with actionable takeaways to cultivate positive, engaging work environment across all levels.
