Getting to Seattle
The nearest airport to the UW campus is Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, approximately 15 miles away. Transportation to campus will be provided through the Link light rail. University of Washington staff will be on site at the airport to provide any assistance you may need, including a fare card and guidance to the train. The light rail ride from the airport usually takes about 45 minutes. Please exit the light rail at the “University of Washington” stop (near the Husky Stadium). Members of the NHTI host committee will meet participants at the light rail station to shuttle them to Oak Hall. Look out for more information regarding light rail pick-ups.
When booking your flights, make sure you land in Seattle early enough to arrive at the campus on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, before the first session begins at 3 p.m. Ideally, you should aim to arrive even earlier so that you can settle into your room before the session begins.
Early Arrival
We recognize that some participants may need to arrive a day early to accommodate time changes and/or to be fiscally responsible. Participants are permitted to arrive on Monday, July 7 at no extra cost.
Departure
The institute will conclude on Friday night and all participants are expected to depart the UW campus on Saturday, July 12. The first light rail train from the U-District station departs around 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, reaching the airport by 6:00 a.m. We recommend scheduling your flight for no earlier than 8:00 a.m. Upon request, late departure may be available through Sunday, July 13 at participants’ expense.
Accommodation
On-campus lodging is located in Oak Hall. Each participant will be assigned their own room with a private bath. Linens and towels will be provided during your stay with us. Most NHTI sessions will take place in the Oak Denny room, situated within Oak Hall.
Hospitality Suite
NHTI’s hospitality suite in Oak Hall will be accessible to all participants. If you need snacks and refreshments, please to stop by! The suite will also have some items available to help you feel more comfortable while you are away from home.
Dining
All breakfasts, lunches and dinners are included in the Institute fees except for the dinner on Thursday. Thursday night will feature a dinner in the city of Seattle, paid for individually by participants. Dietary restrictions should have been noted through the NHTI participant registration form.
UW Dining offers a variety of options, including on-campus cafés for coffee, grab-and-go meals and snacks. The dining halls (Local Point and Center Table) provide all-you-care-to-eat breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Institute Schedule
NHTI will begin on Tuesday, July 8 at 3 p.m. with an initial cluster meeting in your suite and an NHTI welcome. Throughout the Institute, breakfast will start at 7 a.m., followed by a full schedule with sessions commencing at 8 a.m. The sessions will continue throughout the day and into the evening, typically concluding around 8 or 9 p.m. On the final day of NHTI, Friday, July 11, we will end with a celebratory banquet.
Pre-Work
The NHTI includes a set of pre-work items chosen by the faculty. You will receive the pre-work, readings and assignments before attending NHTI this summer.
It is your responsibility to complete the pre-work before arriving on campus. The pre-work includes more than just readings and may involve activities such as interviews and competency self-assessments. Faculty will ensure pre-work is manageable, but please allow yourself enough time to complete these tasks.
